Time to Load Various Scripts and Libraires
Click on the image to the left to see how long it took for the various libraries and style sheets. This is over the University of Minnesota’s network, which is faster than average. (28.4 Mb/s down / 17 Mb/s up according to speedtest.net) Still this gives you and idea of where the worst offenders are. If you’re not at all concerned about print, I’d eliminate Blueprint’s print.css first.

As far as the size of the various libraries, JQuery UI is the worst offender at 181 kilobytes. This might serve as a general library to load for development purposes and could be optimized later based on what UI elements you decide to use. If you don’t need the UI library, I would eliminate it as well.

Why use both Blueprint and the 960 Grid System?
The short answer is that the 960 Grid System offers a little more flexibility with regard to column and gutter width. Blueprint has a nice set of classes and granular browser resets. The long answer is here.
